School Bus Mechanic will work to ensure all district vehicles are operating safely. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure Vehicle Safety and Compliance: Conduct routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance on school buses, vans, trucks, and other district equipment to comply with state and federal regulations. Diagnose and Repair Vehicles: Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment, ensuring vehicles remain operational and safe. Maintain Key Equipment: Inspect, repair, and maintain essential onboard equipment, such as GPS units, cameras, and radios, to support safety and operational efficiency. Perform Preventive Maintenance: Carry out regular maintenance tasks, including oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, and fluid checks, to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan. Follow Outsourcing Protocols: Adhere to established protocols for outsourcing specialized repairs or maintenance tasks that cannot be completed in-house, while ensuring vendors meet quality standards. Provide Emergency Roadside Service: Respond promptly to on‑road vehicle breakdowns, performing necessary repairs or arranging for towing services to minimize service disruptions. Maintain Inventory and Supplies: Monitor, order, and manage an adequate supply of parts, tools, and materials for repairs, ensuring availability for ongoing maintenance operations. Record and Document Maintenance: Complete work orders and maintain accurate logs of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities in the fleet management system for compliance and tracking. Collaborate with the Transportation Team: Work closely with transportation staff to prioritize repairs, address equipment concerns, and recommend fleet upgrades or replacements when needed. Ensure Operational Efficiency and Safety: Recommend changes to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness; maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA‑compliant workshop environment.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

In addition to the foregoing essential job functions, the employee is required to perform the following additional duties, unless such a duty cannot be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. Assist drivers when required to maintain proper fuel supply, engine oil level, transmission oil level, engine coolant level, and proper air pressure in tires. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Assist with snow and ice removal as needed. Transport school students as necessary when staffing needs demand. Other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skills, and/or ability necessary. High School diploma or GED Previous experience providing maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles Previous experience maintaining/repairing school buses and diesel engines preferred Previous experience with vehicle bodywork a plus Clean driving record Current Class B CDL with Air Brake Restriction Removed. School Bus and Passenger Endorsements preferred or must be obtained within one year. Training will be provided by the district.
