Department: College of Engineering and Information Technology, Shared Services Center Serves as primary resource for interpreting university policies and procedures, resolving complex and non-routine financial matters, and ensuring consistent application of university, State of Maryland, and IRS requirements and guidelines. The Specialist independently exercises sound judgment in determining appropriate resolutions, and serves as a liaison among departmental administrators, principal investigators, vendors, and central offices. The position maintains current knowledge of evolving policies, systems, and processes and translates those requirements into practical guidance and directives. Why Work at UMBC? Responsibilities: Promotes operational compliance and strengthens understanding of university expectations forprocurement, payment, reimbursement, and payroll activities across COEIT. Serves as an escalation resource for complex vendor inquiries, financial issues, and payroll situations. Collaborates with central offices to resolve issues and clarify requirements, and identifies opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and consistency. Provides continuity for critical business operations through designated payroll processing and/or approvals. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Human Resources, or a related field. Three years of relevant experience in procurement, A/P, travel, and payroll, and expertise in Excel, Office, and Google products. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
