Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General (All Levels) Training and Experience At least a Bachelor’s Degree in the area of major study. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Planning, Preparation, and Instruction Possesses knowledge of music pedagogy. Engages students in music‑making and teaches musical skills in a variety of genres including instrumental and vocal performance, musicianship, and music literacy. Plans and implements culturally responsive music lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Plans a comprehensive program of study to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students. Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests in accordance with established procedures and curriculum goals. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and learning activities to students. Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives. Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. Instructs and monitors students in the effective use of learning materials and equipment. Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Provides a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. Classroom Environment and Management Establishes and nurtures a positive and equitable classroom culture rooted in high expectations that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the development and interests of students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing clear rules and procedures. Maintains discipline in accordance with school rules. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Prepares the classroom for class activities. Actively works to create a classroom environment that is inclusive and equitable for all students. Assessment and Reporting Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis. Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and adjusts teaching strategies accordingly. Provides appropriate and timely feedback on student work. Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development. Updates all necessary records accurately as required by laws and district policies. Communication and Collaboration Consults with colleagues, students, and parents regularly. Communicates necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs. Encourages parent and community involvement and promptly returns communications. Participates in department, school, district, and parent meetings. Assists the administration in implementing all policies governing student life and conduct. Professional Responsibilities and Development Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Physical Working Conditions Must be able to move about and traverse throughout the school building. Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. It is occasionally required to reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Is expected to lift at least 20 lbs. Must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and use hand strength to grasp tools. Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Must communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff in person, via email, and on the telephone. Must be able to see and hear continuously to ensure student safety and provide instruction. May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces.
