Available shifts may include:Morning shiftsDay shiftsEvening shiftsNight shiftsOvernight shiftsWeekday assignmentsWeekend assignmentsPRN and as-needed assignmentsTemporary assignmentsRecurring assignmentsShifts ranging from 4 to 12 hoursShift lengths, start times, end times and available days depend on current client needs, care plans, locations and personal preferences.Applicants must provide their complete availability so they can be considered for appropriate assignments.Once a caregiver accepts a permanent, temporary or PRN assignment, dependable attendance and completion of the entire scheduled shift are required.Client Care LevelsHelping Hearts supports clients with different levels of need. Assignments are matched according to the caregiver's experience, skills, availability, location and ability to safely complete the approved care plan.Caregiver assignments may range from companionship and light housekeeping to complete personal care, dementia support, incontinence care, bedbound care and transfer assistance.Applicants must honestly disclose their experience and any limitations that and provide assistance in a respectful, patient and professional manner.Dementia and Memory Care SupportSome assignments may involve clients living with dementia, Alzheimer's disease or other cognitive conditions.Responsibilities may include:Providing calm and consistent supervisionOffering appropriate redirection and reassuranceSupporting established routinesMonitoring for confusion, agitation or wanderingObserving changes in behaviorEncouraging safe and appropriate activitiesMaintaining a quiet and supportive environmentFollowing client-specific communication strategiesRemaining aware of the client's location and safetyImmediately reporting significant behavioral or cognitive changesDocumenting all concerns and completed care responsibilitiesCaregivers assigned to dementia or memory-care clients must remain patient, attentive and aware of the client's safety throughout the entire shift.Mobility, Transfers and Higher-Assistance CareSome clients may have limited mobility, be at high risk for falls or require significant physical assistance.Depending on the care plan, caregiver experience and completed training, responsibilities may include:Assisting with walking and balanceSupporting clients using walkers or other approved mobility devicesSupporting wheelchair mobilityAssisting with bed mobilityRepositioning clients in a bed or chairHelping clients move between a bed, wheelchair, chair, commode or toiletUsing an approved gait belt when directedAssisting with sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit transfersCompleting approved one-person transfersFollowing all two-person transfer requirementsUsing a mechanical or Hoyer lift when requiredChecking equipment before useFollowing fall-prevention proceduresRequesting assistance when care cannot be completed safelyCaregivers must never attempt an unsafe transfer or use equipment they have not been trained and authorized to operate.Bedbound-Client SupportSome clients may be bedbound or require extensive hands-on assistance.Responsibilities may include:Providing bed bathsCompleting personal hygieneProviding toileting and incontinence careChanging protective undergarmentsAssisting with perineal careRepositioning according to the care planUsing pillows or approved positioning supportsKeeping bedding clean, dry and free from wrinklesChanging linens while the client remains in bedMonitoring common pressure areasObserving for redness, bruising or skin concernsProviding feeding and hydration assistanceMaintaining the client's dignity, comfort and privacyReporting all changes in condition immediatelyCaregivers must use proper body mechanics and request assistance whenever a task cannot be completed safely.Meal Preparation and HydrationDepending on the assignment, caregivers may be responsible for:Planning meals according to client preferencesFollowing approved dietary instructionsPreparing meals and snacksAssisting with feedingEncouraging regular fluid intakeObserving and documenting food and fluid intakeAssisting with grocery organizationFollowing safe food-handling practicesWashing dishesCleaning meal-preparation areasReporting concerns related to appetite, swallowing or hydrationDifficulty swallowing, coughing during meals, choking, vomiting or significant refusal to eat or drink
