As a Diesel Mechanic at Ryan Johnson Farms, you will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of farm equipment, diesel tractors, semi-trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in high-quality mechanical workmanship, and enjoys working both in a fully equipped shop and out in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks) and complex mechanical repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical components.
• Diagnostics: Use electronic diagnostic tools and traditional troubleshooting methods to identify mechanical and electrical issues on tractors, combines, sprayers, semi-trucks, and support equipment.
• Field Service: Provide timely on-farm and in-field repairs during critical operational windows (planting and harvest seasons) to minimize equipment downtime.
• System Servicing: Inspect, service, and repair heavy equipment components, including braking systems, steering, air conditioning/HVAC, and grain-handling equipment.
• Shop & Tool Upkeep: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; ensure tools, equipment, and parts inventories are properly managed.
• Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all farm safety standards and federal/state regulations governing vehicle and equipment operation.
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience working as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician (agricultural equipment experience preferred).
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, 12V electrical systems, and powertrain diagnostics.
• CDL: A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is highly preferred (or willingness to obtain one).
• Tools: Possession of a basic set of personal mechanic tools (larger specialty tools provided by the farm).
• Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in varied weather conditions when doing field repairs.
• Work Ethic: Highly self-motivated, organized, and willing to work extended hours/overtime during peak agricultural seasons (spring planting and fall harvest).
