Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; PALS preferred but not required Must-Have: Must be comfortable with ventilator management and medication titration. Must have experience with arterial lines and central lines. Experience with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and external ventricular drains/intracranial pressure (EVD/ICP) management preferred. Description: The unit provides care for complex trauma patients, including head, chest, abdomen, and orthopedic trauma. The unit also manages strokes, IV tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) administration, thrombectomies, embolizations, and aneurysm coiling. Additionally, care is provided for severe burn patients and general medical and surgical patients requiring critical care. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2-3. All common ICU medications will need to be titrated. A charge nurse is available 24/7, ideally without patient assignments unless necessary. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are staffed on the unit, ratio and duties may vary based on the situation. Clientists are on-site 24/7, with eICU support available after hours for pulmonary issues. All common respiratory therapy equipment is available in the ICU, with respiratory therapists managing the equipment. Registered Nurses are required to understand EKG rhythms and assess the need for intervention. Scheduling includes 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7:30 PM, with every other weekend and holiday required. Floating to other departments may occur, with capped ratios. Professional scrubs are required, and specific scrubs will be provided for burn patient care. Unit-specific orientation will be provided. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position.
