HFEMS Complaints Section Health Compliance Inspector - FAA01923 (HP III)

Department Information Salary and Step Pay If you are currently a HFEMS Health Professional III, you will maintain your current salary. If you are eligible for step pay increases, the Division HRBP will audit your step pay/time‑in‑series upon offer. If you are a current State of Colorado Health Professional III employee, the HRBP will audit your salary and step pay to determine an appropriate salary. If you are not a current State of Colorado employee, the starting pay for this position is $66,024 annually. Position Overview The Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) oversees federal and state statutes and regulations applicable to a wide range of healthcare facilities and services in Colorado. This role evaluates and enforces compliance for licensed and certified facilities, provides patient safety and quality programs, and communicates regulatory guidance to providers and consumers. Responsibilities Conduct on‑site observations, interviews, and record reviews of health facilities to assess compliance with federal and state statutes. Review self‑reported occurrences and incidents for serious deficiencies and determine appropriate responses. Write clear, concise, legally defensible statements of deficiencies. Act as an educator and interpreter of regulations for service providers and consumers. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions. Travel as needed (up to 50% of the time) throughout Colorado for surveys or complaint investigations. Follow all health and safety protocols, including required vaccinations and protective equipment training. Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to this position, or A bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, public/health administration, psychology, or a closely related field plus two (2) additional years of relevant experience. Preferred Competencies Proficiency in fundamental computer skills and communication technology. Experience evaluating health‑care facility quality, including observations, record reviews, interviews, and evidence analysis. Ability to write clear, concise, legally defensible statements of deficiencies. Strong interpersonal and conflict‑management skills. Ability to perform the physical demands of the position. Conditions of Employment Pre‑employment background check. Willingness to travel independently or with a group up to 50% of the time. Availability to work during emergencies and as required by the Continuity of Operations Plan. Proficiency in word processing and communication technology. Annual influenza shot and N‑95 mask fit testing; COVID‑19 vaccination required. Work occasional evening, night, weekend, or holiday shifts. Physical ability to lift up to 45 lbs., walk or stand for extended periods, and operate state fleet vehicles. Completion of required surveyor training within six months of hire.
