Registered Nurse Health Compliance Inspector, Nursing Facilities - FAA00313

Position for Registered Nurse Health Compliance Inspectors. Current HFEMS RN Health Compliance Inspectors will retain their existing salary if hired; step pay increases will be reviewed in collaboration with HRBP. Non‑current State of Colorado employees: starting pay is $80,916 per annum. Summary of Position The role involves independent or team‑based assessment of nursing facilities to determine compliance with federal, state, and professional standards. Responsibilities include conducting nursing observations, medication pass tasks, documenting incidents, analyzing compliance, and writing legally defensible deficiency statements. Duties of Position Conduct unannounced inspections to determine regulatory compliance. Assess quality of care and treatment of residents/patients through observations, record review, and interviews. Collect and document evidence from observations, interviews, and record review. Analyze evidence to identify compliance status and deficiencies. Write clear, concise statements of deficiencies based on analysis. Advise facility providers, consumers, and agencies on regulatory requirements. Decide on inspection areas to cite and determine applicable regulations. Investigate complex complaints and determine substantiation and appropriate citations. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Proficiency in basic computer skills and word processing. Experience in nursing or acute care settings, preferably in a nursing facility or agency. Experience evaluating quality of care and facility practices. Experience conducting interviews with patients, families, staff, and medical professionals. Experience analyzing evidence and survey results to determine compliance. Experience writing clear, concise, legally defensible deficiency statements. Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict‑management skills. Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 45 lbs and standing/walking for extended periods. Active, unrestricted RN license in Colorado or a state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Minimum Qualifications Either: Six (6) years of applicable health‑care experience in a facility or program overseen by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division, plus a current, valid RN license. Or a combination of education and experience: two (2) years of applicable health‑care experience, a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, or related field, and a current, valid RN license. Residency Requirement Applicants must be residents of the State of Colorado at the time of application. Conditions of Employment Pre‑employment background check. Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time within Colorado. Capacity to work in environments where contagious diseases may be present, using provided protective equipment. Availability for emergency or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation. Vaccination requirements: annual influenza shot and COVID‑19 vaccination per state guidance. Successful completion of required surveyor training within six months of hiring. Use of state fleet vehicles may be required (conditions apply).
