Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Charlotte, we serve clients nationwide across our Construction and Facilities Maintenance divisions. Our construction work takes us wherever our clients need us, and every job needs one person on site who owns it. We need a Commercial Construction Superintendent who can walk onto a job on day one and run it: set the pace, direct the trades, hold the quality line, and keep the schedule moving until the building is turned over. This is a traveling role. It starts as an independent contractor engagement with a clear path to a full-time position. We want to see how you run a job, and we want you to see what it is like to build with us. What you will own Site management and construction oversight Run all daily construction activity on site, making sure work is built to the contract drawings, specifications, and project documents. Coordinate subcontractors and trade partners at the site level, including orientation, daily scheduling, and performance oversight. Keep the job site safe and compliant. Conduct subcontractor safety orientations and enforce every safety protocol, every day. Control quality. Inspect installations and confirm they meet the required standard before accepting them. Schedule and deliverables Build and maintain the three-week look-ahead schedule. Manage the overall construction schedule to bring the project in on time. Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and milestones so nothing stalls the job. Project closeout Run the punch list process and lead trade partners through final inspections and closeout. Make sure all documentation, certifications, and turnover items are complete and organized before handoff. Communication and reporting Report to the General Superintendent and stay in close, consistent contact with the assigned Project Manager. Log daily progress and document site conditions, RFIs, and any issue that affects schedule or cost. Represent Modern Construction Services professionally with clients, architects, and inspectors on site.What the work actually looks like You live on the road. You stay on site for the full length of each assignment, with extended stays in project markets. Travel home is covered every three weeks. The schedule is Monday through Friday, traditional business hours, with additional hours when the project calls for it. A critical inspection, a late delivery, or a push to a milestone can stretch a day. You own the job from day one. Nobody runs the site while you get settled. You arrive, get oriented, and take control. You are the face of MCS on site. Clients, architects, inspectors, and trades form their opinion on us by how you run the job. Who you are You run a tight site. Organized, safe, and on schedule is your normal, not your good week. You lead trades without losing them. You hold subcontractors to the standard and keep them working with you, not against you. You catch problems early. You spot the schedule slip or the quality issue before it becomes a cost, and you raise it right away. You document as you go. Daily logs, RFIs, and site conditions stay current because you keep them current. You like the road. Extended stays and new markets energize you rather than wear you down. This role is probably not the right fit if You want to be home every night. This role keeps you in the project market for weeks at a time. You need someone else to set up the job before you take it over. You treat paperwork as optional. Daily logs, RFIs, and closeout documentation are part of the job here. You want a permanent position on day one and are not open to proving yourself in a contract period first. Requirements What you bring Five or more years as a superintendent in commercial construction. A track record of running commercial projects independently, from start to finish. Strong command of construction safety standards and subcontractor management. Proficiency in Procore/InGenious and Microsoft Project. Clear communication and strong organization, in writing and in person. The ability and willingness to travel, with extended stays at project sites. Strong pluses A bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field. Equivalent field experience counts just as much. Familiarity with Avetta, Bolt or Fexa. Experience running commercial projects across multiple markets and geographies. What sets a strong Superintendent apart here Average keeps the job moving today. Compensation and travel $90,000 to $130,000 annualized, depending on experience, paid as an independent contractor. Travel and per diem covered for all project assignments. Travel home covered every three weeks. A path to full-time employment with Modern Construction Services after the contract period.
