Senior Linux Systems Administrator

Contract opportunity - 3 days a week on-site. We're seeking an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to join a high-performing infrastructure team responsible for supporting and enhancing enterprise Linux environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with modern automation tools, cloud technologies, and enterprise operating systems while helping to maintain secure, resilient, and high-performing infrastructure. The Role As part of the infrastructure engineering team, you'll take ownership of Linux server administration across physical, virtual, and cloud-based environments. You'll be responsible for maintaining system reliability, improving automation, strengthening security, and supporting ongoing platform enhancements. Working alongside cloud, networking, and security teams, you'll help deliver infrastructure that is scalable, secure, and built for long-term success. Key Responsibilities Administer, configure and support enterprise Linux environments across on-premises and AWS infrastructure. Deploy and maintain Linux servers using automated provisioning and configuration management tools. Perform operating system patching, upgrades and lifecycle management with minimal service disruption. Build, maintain and optimise AWS infrastructure following security and operational best practices. Support core AWS services including compute, storage, networking, identity and database platforms. Identify, investigate and remediate operating system vulnerabilities. Review security scan findings and implement appropriate remediation plans. Manage Red Hat Satellite environments, including content lifecycle management and repository administration. Support IT service management processes, including incident, change and request management. Monitor system availability, utilisation and performance, proactively resolving potential issues. Troubleshoot complex Linux operating system and infrastructure problems. Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and system standards. Participate in an on-call support rota for critical production environments. Collaborate with engineering teams on infrastructure improvement and modernisation initiatives. We're looking for candidates with: 5+ years of Linux Systems Administration experience. Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS and/or Ubuntu. Experience managing enterprise server deployments and operating system lifecycle management. Solid understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure and services. Hands‑on experience with Ansible or similar configuration management platforms. Experience managing vulnerability remediation and operating system security. Familiarity with ITSM platforms, including ServiceNow. Experience working with virtualisation technologies such as VMware or KVM. Good understanding of networking concepts, TCP/IP and infrastructure security. Scripting experience using Bash, Python or similar languages. Excellent troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.
