Chief of Staff

The Role The Chief of Staff is a hands-on, high-trust generalist role at the center of the company. You will own our people operations, run the office, plan the events that bring our team together, and act as a strategic partner to the executive team. This is not a purely administrative position as you will be trusted with sensitive information, expected to solve problems before they reach leadership, and given real ownership over how the company operates day to day. What You’ll Do Process accurate, on-time payroll for all employees and contractors Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and annual open enrollment Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements Serve as the primary liaison with our payroll provider and benefits brokers Human Resources Own the full employee lifecycle: recruiting coordination, offer letters, onboarding, performance cycles, and offboarding Maintain the employee handbook, HR policies, and personnel files Act as a trusted, confidential resource for employee questions and concerns Track PTO, leave requests, and compliance training Support managers with hiring plans, compensation questions, and employee relations Event Planning Plan and execute company events, including all-hands meetings, team offsites, holiday celebrations, client functions, and milestone gatherings Manage budgets, vendors, venues, catering, and logistics from concept through follow-up Office Management Keep the office running: supplies, equipment, facilities, vendors, and mail Manage relationships with landlords, IT support, cleaning services, and other providers Oversee the office budget and identify opportunities to improve efficiency Ensure the workspace is safe, welcoming, and well organized Executive Support Partner with the COO and executive team on scheduling, travel, and meeting preparation Prepare agendas, briefing materials, and follow-ups for leadership and board meetings Track key initiatives and action items across the executive team and drive them to completion Handle confidential correspondence and special projects with discretion and sound judgment What We’re Looking For 5+ years of experience in operations, HR, executive support, or a similar generalist role, ideally in a growing company Hands-on experience running payroll and administering benefits (experience with Alliance payroll platform is a plus) Working knowledge of basic employment law and HR best practices Proven ability to plan and execute events from start to finish Exceptional organization and follow-through Unquestionable discretion with sensitive personnel and business information Clear, warm communication style; you can talk to a new hire, a vendor, and the CEO with equal ease A proactive, problem-solving mindset and a genuine willingness to roll up your sleeves Proficiency with Microsoft Office; comfort learning new tools quickly Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus but not required What We Offer Competitive salary commensurate with experience Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and company holidays Retirement plan with company match A collaborative, supportive team that values the work you do Tubbesing is an equal opportunity employer.
