Mosquito Control Inspector

Overview The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Mosquito Control Inspector (Highway & Bridge Maintenance Division). THIS JOB ANNOUNCEMENT WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED AND MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. Availability Position requires availability to work night-time, daytime, and weekends as needed, with notification to changes in schedule sometimes being provided with less than 24 hours' notice. Responsibilities Conduct systematic daily checks of assigned areas in salt marshes and ditches during mosquito breeding periods. Determine mosquito species and breeding stage, and monitor for new breeding sites. Inspect residential areas, identify water containers, elevator shafts, sumps, and other breeding habitats, and notify residents or owners of issues. Record inspection data, conduct adult mosquito counts at established stations, and maintain accurate work records. Operate spray trucks and spraying machinery, applying larvicides and adulticides as directed. Respond to public complaints regarding mosquito nuisance, locate breeding sites, and take corrective actions. Collaborate with supervisors to analyze scientific and procedural problems, develop abatement plans, and supervise subordinate inspectors. Prepare and maintain survey maps and stock supplies and equipment. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Six (6) months handling pesticide and some knowledge of public health pest control or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses Public Health Applicators License issued by the State of Florida, to be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License for the duration of appointment. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree or higher in Biology, Entomology or related field. Training certification in mosquito biology and control techniques. Class A or B valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License. FAA Part 107 Certificate (Drone Pilot License). 1+ year experience using larvicide equipment and turbine sprayer (calibration, mixing, loading, testing). 1+ year experience with surveillance and testing activities (trap setup, dip sampling, larval counts, data collection, analysis). 1+ year experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 1+ year experience with repair/maintenance of mosquito control equipment. 1+ year experience supporting aerial mosquito control operation. Physical Demands Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time, and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis. May involve routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals; requires wearing a respirator mask and other personal protective equipment.
