Summary The Director of Major Gifts, Individual and Family Giving, is a key front‑line Foundation fundraising leader responsible for planning, development, design, and implementation of gifts programs. The position is accountable for meeting ambitious and increasing financial goals, managing a growing team of fundraisers, serving as the department service line liaison, and maintaining productivity and accountability through effective strategies, metrics, work plans, and tactics. The Director will also manage their own portfolio of prospects, including Principal Gifts level prospects, and lead by example in closing gifts to support institutional priorities. Responsibilities Develop and execute major gift strategies that meet or exceed financial goals; spearhead the planning, development, design, and implementation of gifts programs; manage a growing fundraisers team; serve as department service line liaison and main point of contact for Department Chairs; develop effective strategies, metrics, and work plans with the EVP; manage personal prospect portfolio across all levels; coach and develop staff; anticipate and avert issues in the development of fundraising proposals and the expenditure of philanthropic dollars; maintain effective processes for measuring progress toward goals; recognize and implement new opportunities for program growth; take action to course‑correct as needed. Requirements Minimum 10 years of non‑profit fundraising experience, including at least 5 years of leadership managing no less than two Major Gift Officers or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of cancer fundraising experience. Demonstrated track record of closing five‑, six‑, and seven‑figure plus gifts. Minimum 5 years of experience within a complex medical research institution. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional planning and execution skills. Personal gravitas and maturity to deal with major donors. Excellent team leadership skills. Proven ability to meet ambitious financial goals. Preferred: More than 8 years of development experience in a healthcare organization; experience in a grateful patient fundraising setting.
