• Contract Duration: 3 months
• Pay Rate: $24.10 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Wednesday Sunday, 7:00 PM 3:30 AM
• Overtime: Overtime availability is a requirement; overtime rate applies

The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The job is complex and requires that the employee have good organization skills and is able to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by the client. The SPT I must have the ability to learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change on a daily basis. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required. The SPT I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer. The majority of SPT I work on the night shift, but based on staffing needs, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime availability is a requirement.

• Perform A-station, presort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory
• Perform imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting
• Perform all functions with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner
• Learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by the client
• Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change on a daily basis
• Meet productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times in a production environment
• Enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
• Practice good safety habits while working in a biohazard environment
• Sit or stand for long periods as required
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
• Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures
• Keep work area neat and clean
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment
• Demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to change

• Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing
• Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)

• No experience required

• Previous laboratory experience preferred
• Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required
• Previous experience in a production environment preferred

• Works in a biohazard environment; must practice good safety habits
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods
• Department is a production environment with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times
• Majority of SPT I positions work the night shift; weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime availability is a requirement
