Junior Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate

Job Description Summary Fenwick & West is looking to expand its Chambers‑ranked Privacy & Security practice by hiring a junior associate with two to four years of experience in privacy and cybersecurity law as it relates to business transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, licensing and other technology transactions, and general commercial contracting. This solicitation is for the firm’s Silicon Valley (CA) office only. Overview Fenwick & West is dedicated to serving technology and life sciences companies, from innovators to market leaders in industries such as artificial intelligence, social media, gaming, cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, cryptocurrency, and digital health care. We help companies plan for growth and manage risks associated with the collection, use, and disclosure of consumer, health, financial, employee, and other sensitive information. We provide comprehensive cybersecurity legal services, from governance and preparedness to compliance, data breach response, and defense of regulatory investigations and multidistrict class‑action litigation. Ideal Candidate Solid understanding of federal privacy laws (TCPA, GLBA, FCRA, CAN‑SPAM, COPPA, FTC Act), state privacy laws (CCPA), international privacy laws (GDPR), and technology and data flows. Experience counseling clients on privacy compliance aspects of transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions, financings, capital markets transactions, and technology transactions. Experience drafting privacy and security policies, negotiating privacy‑related contracts or data processing agreements. Superior academic credentials. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Strong professional references. Experience with AI counseling is desirable but not essential. Exceptional candidates looking to transition to privacy and cybersecurity with experience in either M&A or technology transactions will be considered. California bar membership (or eligibility to take the next available exam) is required. Benefits and Compensation The anticipated base salary range for this position is $235,000 – $310,000, depending on the role, qualifications, experience, education, certifications or licenses, and location. A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance.
