The Director of Band and Music Instructor is responsible for the leadership administration and artistic direction of the universitys band program as well as teaching music courses as assigned. This role includes conducting band rehearsals and performances overseeing band operations mentoring student musicians and contributing to the academic mission of the music department.

Responsibilities

• Lead conduct and manage the universitys band program including marching band concert band pep band and other ensembles as assigned.
• Plan and oversee all aspects of band rehearsals performances and appearances at athletic events university ceremonies and community events.
• Teach music courses such as applied lessons music theory music appreciation or ensemble performance as assigned.
• Develop and implement band show concepts drill designs and music selections.
• Recruit and retain student musicians through outreach auditions and partnerships with high schools and community organizations.
• Supervise and mentor band staff assistant directors and student leaders.
• Manage the band program budget equipment inventory and uniform maintenance.
• Coordinate travel logistics and event planning for band performances and competitions.
• Foster a positive inclusive environment that supports student success leadership and artistic growth.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and safety standards in all band activities.

Education

• Masters degree in music music education or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in band directing and music instruction preferably at the collegiate or secondary level.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings weekends and travel as required.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
