Job Summary

We have a full-charge Bookkeeper opportunity for a direct hire opportunity with a construction company in Poway, CA area. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys owning the full bookkeeping cycle, supporting accurate project financials, and working closely with project managers, operations teams, vendors, and subcontractors. The right candidate will bring hands-on construction accounting experience, including AIA billing, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, QuickBooks Desktop, and month-end close activity.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and manage construction progress billings, including AIA G702/G703 billing documents, in accordance with contract terms.
- Oversee accounts receivable activity, monitor aging, support collections, and reconcile customer accounts for month-end and year-end reporting.
- Review and process subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, vendor bills, and project-related expenses with accurate job cost coding.
- Support payroll and labor costing by ensuring labor hours are recorded accurately and allocated to the proper projects.
- Partner with accounting leadership, project managers, and operations teams to analyze project costs, identify variances, and prepare financial reports.
- Maintain organized accounting records, support audit documentation, follow GAAP and company policies, and contribute to process improvements and internal controls.

- Salary range: $85,000 starting
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage full-charge bookkeeping functions within a construction accounting environment.
- Handle AIA billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, job costing, payroll support, and month-end close activity.
- Partner with project managers and accounting leadership to monitor project financial performance and cost accuracy.
- Maintain compliance with accounting policies, contract requirements, audit documentation, and internal controls.

- 3-5 years of relevant bookkeeping, accounting, or office management experience preferred.
- Full-charge bookkeeping experience within the construction industry is required.
- Subcontractor accounting experience is required.
- QuickBooks Desktop accounting experience is required.
- Strong understanding of construction billing, job costing, project expenses, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Ability to code and allocate costs accurately to the appropriate jobs and projects.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with accounting, project management, operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of GAAP, contract compliance, documentation standards, and financial reporting best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Procure, Textura, billing releases, or ADP payroll is a plus.
- Labor compliance experience is a plus.
- Union payroll experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience working in a union environment is preferred but not mandatory.
- Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.
