About Stillwell

We're a growth-stage manufacturer looking for a technically sharp Lathe Machinist Supervisor to run our 2nd shift CNC machining operation. This role is the technical backbone of the shift — your primary job is keeping every operator's machine running, every job on schedule, and every quality issue caught before it becomes scrap. You'll troubleshoot setups, resolve programming and offset issues, and solve problems fast enough that machines don't sit idle waiting on you.

You won't be running parts full-time — but when a machine's down, a setup needs a second set of hands, or coverage is needed, you're capable and willing to step in and run it yourself.

The Opportunity

As a Machine Operator, you will operate and maintain machinery to produce high-quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will ensure machines run smoothly at capacity and meet quality standards while maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

2nd Shift (12:00 pm-8:30pm)

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise 1–4 CNC operators running lathes and a horizontal mill, acting as the shift's primary technical problem-solver
• Diagnose and resolve setup, programming (G-code), and offset issues quickly to minimize machine downtime
• Keep all operators' machines running — proactively check in, anticipate bottlenecks, and reallocate attention to whichever machine needs it most
• Step in to run parts yourself when needed — covering absences, resolving a stubborn setup, or maintaining output during a crunch
• Review first-article and in-process inspections; ensure parts meet print specifications and quality standards
• Own shift performance metrics — production counts, scrap/rework rates, downtime, and on-time completion
• Train and coach operators on technique, troubleshooting, and machine capability — build a team that needs less hand-holding over time
• Enforce safety protocols and maintain an organized, efficient work area
• Communicate clear shift handoffs to 1st shift leadership (machine status, quality issues, staffing, open jobs)
• Escalate material, tooling, or equipment issues in real time

  What You Bring

• 3–5 years of CNC lathe machining experience, including setup, operation, and troubleshooting
• 1+ years in a lead, supervisor, or informal leadership capacity on a production floor
• Strong working knowledge of CNC programming/editing (G-code), offsets, and setup troubleshooting
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work orders independently
• Precision measurement tool proficiency (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
• Experience with horizontal mills a plus, not required
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems fast and keep multiple machines/operators productive simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

• Went from operator to lead/supervisor faster than typical tenure would suggest
• Known as the person others go to when a machine or program isn't behaving
• Comfortable being the most technically capable person on the floor with no one to escalate to
