Position Overview Functional Title: Food Service Worker II Job Title: Food Service Worker II Agency: Health & Human Services Comm Department: Food Service Posting Number: 18118 Closing Date: 09/15/2026 Salary Range: $2,639.75 - $3,404.91 per month Shift: Day (Days first) Location: 2100 PRESTON, RICHMOND, TX – Richmond State Supported Living Center The Food Service Worker II performs moderately complex food service work on a designated shift within the Central Kitchen and/or at a satellite kitchen/serving area under general supervision. Duties include preparing, portioning, distributing and serving food for regular and therapeutic diets, and sanitizing equipment, work areas, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. The position may require training and oversight of other Food Service workers, and may involve driving a state vehicle to deliver food to homes. Responsibilities Prepare and portion food for special diets following food service procedures. Prepare scheduled snacks and supplements, and maintain the supply of snack items. Distribute food safely and sanitarily according to food service policies. Serve food following established procedures and proper food handling guidelines. Assist in cleaning and sanitizing kitchen, stock rooms, food preparation areas, and satellite areas. Receive deliveries of food and supplies from vendors. Prepare required paperwork accurately and promptly. Follow safety procedures and practices. Train or assist in training new food service employees to maintain a knowledgeable staff. Participate in disaster response, Continuity of Operations Plan activation, or other agency obligations as needed. Essential Job Functions Attend work on a regular basis and perform duties according to shift schedules, including rotating shifts, extended shifts, and overtime as required. Complete required training per agency policy. Follow food safety and handling procedures in accordance with state, federal, and HACCP guidelines. Handle food responsibly and follow sanitation procedures for equipment and surfaces. Support disaster response and continuity operations when Assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of food preparation methods, storage standards, and sanitation regulations. Skill in operating and sanitizing food service equipment. Ability to prepare and serve food, clean dining and preparation areas, and maintain accurate records. Ability to speak and read English. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to use basic math in cooking/preparation. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, stand, and walk on hard floors for extended periods of time. Ability to work in hot and/or cold conditions. Ability to use senses such as smell, taste, and sight to ensure food quality. Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co‑workers and residents. Registrations, Licensure, and Certifications Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire date (preferred). Out‑of‑state drivers must provide an original certified driving record in compliance with HHSC Fleet Management policy. Initial Screening Criteria Paid or unpaid experience in food service work; or Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent; or Some work experience. Preferred Six months of experience in food service work.
