Staff Accountant

The \"Staff Accountant I\" is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Bank's general ledger by preparing journal entries, performing balance sheet reconciliations, accounting for fixed assets and prepaid expenses, maintaining the chart of accounts, and supporting the monthly and annual financial close process. This position ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and the Bank's internal accounting policies while supporting financial reporting and audit activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform Daily reconciliation of the Assets & Liabilities GLs and gather approval on a weekly basis and investigate and follow up outstanding items. Perform Daily Reconciliation of the internal bank DDA Accounts and investigate and follow up on outstanding items. Review Subsidiary ledger vs General Ledger Reports: TM0825, TA0825, and LN0825 daily. Reconcile unposted items and ensure timely resolution of outstanding transactions. Review GL Maintenance report and add correspondent backups, if necessary, daily. Prepare, review, and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries while ensuring proper supporting documentation and approval. Monthly Fixed Asset Processing (capitalization, additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliation) Maintain fixed asset roll-forward schedules. Monthly Prepaid Processing (creation, amortization, and reconciliation). Monthly Accruals Processing per budget. Prepare month-end adjusting entries and supporting schedules. Monthly Provision and Accrual reconciliations with distribution to designated, specified areas. Assist with backup documentation request for Audit Purposes. Assist the VP Accounting Manager with other Ad hoc requests. Perform End-of-Month Trial Balance reconciliations and investigate unusual variances. AP Duties such as Invoices processing and approval gathering, vendor maintenance, GL batches processing, DDA Funding, and AP reconciliation. Staff Accountant II duties such as Cashier/Interest Checks and Due from Banks Reconciliations, and GL entries. EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of Accounts Payable and General Accounting experience, preferably within the banking industry. Thorough understanding of GAAP. Experience with bank Accounting System and General Ledger Software (AS400) Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while meeting deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish. Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
