STUDENT ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS COODINATOR

Position Title: STUDENT ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS COORDINATOR Department: STUDENT ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS Reports To: DIRECTOR - STUDENT ACTIVITIES FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Starting Salary: $29.01/HOUR Position Summary Functions as building athletic director for assigned high school, responsible for administering the school’s student athletic program in accordance with Ohio High School Athletic Association rules, conference by‑laws and district policies; performs related duties as required. Essential Duties Certifies athletic eligibility of student athletes to participate in the district’s athletic programs ensuring compliance with Ohio High School Athletic Association by‑laws and district policies. Monitors student eligibility to participate in the district’s athletic programs; initiates corrective action as necessary. Works collaboratively with the building principal in the recruitment, evaluation, selection and hiring of athletic coaches and advisors. Works with the Human Resources Department to coordinate the completion of new hire paperwork. Schedules and coordinates league and non‑league games for high school sports teams. Assumes responsibility for the overall care and maintenance of the building’s athletic fields and facilities. Administers the building’s athletic budget; ensures expenditures are within the approved budget. Documents all gate receipts, ticket usage and deposits. Processes payroll paperwork for individuals involved with building athletic events including police, athletic officials, and coaches. Coordinates arrangements for team participation in sectional, district, regional and state‑level tournaments; coordinates related logistical arrangements including transportation, referees/officials, and the like. Develops and maintains a working relationship with building administrators, athletic booster organizations, the media and the public as it relates to the building’s sports programs. Works with the media on publicity and reporting of athletic events and results. Responds to parental and community inquiries in a timely and courteous manner. Prepares required documentation and reports. Maintains complete and accurate student athlete records and files. Works cooperatively and maintains communication with Pupil Transportation, Buildings & Grounds, Safety & Security and others to coordinate activities, resolve problems and exchange information regarding athletic events. Keeps abreast of NCAA Ohio High School Athletic Association and league rules and regulations. Monitors assigned functions to ensure compliance with Ohio High School Athletic Association by‑laws; initiates corrective action as necessary. Job Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation Administration or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Three (3) or more years of experience supervising extracurricular athletic programs at a high school or college level or supervising a public recreation center with diverse athletic programs or working as a certified athletic trainer in a high school or college setting. Valid State of Ohio driver’s license. Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) or ability to successfully pass the test within one year of employment. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge Considerable knowledge of athletic/sports administration. General knowledge of Ohio High School Athletic Association rules and bylaws; general knowledge of district policies on athletic extracurricular participation. Skills Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with all levels of District staff, coaches, students, vendors, public officials, parents and others in the exchange of information. The incumbent is also required to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner. Mathematical aptitude necessary to monitor expenditures, tally gate receipts, and the like. Abilities Analytical ability to conduct fact‑finding investigations. Written and computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents and reports. The incumbent is also required to be able to write clear, complete, accurate and logical reports. Ability to plan and develop athletic schedules. Ability to establish and meet deadlines. Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds). Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours. Attendance: Punctual onsite and/or virtual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
