Project Accountant (Temporary)

Your Role Project Accountant based in Chicago, supporting the firm's North Central Region projects. Temporary position through October, with potential for full-time. Full-time in-office. Works closely with Project Managers, Studio Directors, and Regional leadership to maintain fiscal health throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities Manage project financials: contract review, budget monitoring, forecasting, variance analysis, and reporting. Prepare and process accurate client invoices, review draft invoices with Project Managers, maintain invoice tracking, and manage deferred revenue and revenue recognition. Coordinate consultant and vendor contracts, invoicing, and payments via Coupa; reconcile fees and expenses against budgets. Monitor Accounts Receivable, follow up on overdue, short-paid, or disputed invoices, research payment discrepancies. Maintain accurate project data in the accounting system (Deltek Vantagepoint), conduct periodic audits, and ensure compliance with firm policies. Act as financial liaison among project teams, studios, and regional leadership; provide analysis and participate in special projects. Qualifications Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (equivalent experience considered). 3-5+ years of accounting or project accounting experience in a professional services firm; architectural, engineering, or design industry experience preferred. Strong understanding of contract-based billing, fee management, and project financial controls. Advanced proficiency in Excel with strong data management and analytical skills. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred; experience with Coupa and Tableau a plus. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills; collaborative and proactive problem-solver. Salary & Benefits Estimated full-time permanent base salary: $74,000-$90,000.
