Emergency Department RN | Level II Trauma Center

Key Requirements

• Minimum 2 years recent ED experience (excluding travel experience) preferred

   

Certifications Required

✅ BLS
✅ ACLS
✅ PALS
✅ TNCC
✅ NIHSS
⭐ CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred

Unit Highlights

• 150–180 patients/day
• 33-bed Main ED
• 8 Trauma/Resuscitation beds
• Level II Trauma Center
• Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Pediatric critical care patients
• EPIC EMR experience strongly preferred

Patient Population

• Neonate through Geriatric
• Sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness
• GI bleeds, cardiac emergencies
• Trauma (GSWs, MVCs, falls, drownings, stab wounds)
• Stroke patients up to 24 hours from symptom onset

RN Expectations

• Triage and ESI assessments
• Care for all acuity levels
• Critical thinking and prioritization skills
• Comfortable caring for Sexual Assault patients and evidence collection (training/support provided)
• May precept students

Ratios & Support

• RN Ratio: 1:4–5
• ED Tech Ratio: 1:10
• 24/7 Physician, NP, RT, Pharmacy, Radiology, Security, and Phlebotomy support

Floating

• May float to Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse only
• ICU RNs may float to ED
• PCU RNs may float to ICU

Scheduling

• Variable shifts:
  • 0630-1900
  • 1000-2230
  • 1200-0030
  • 1400-0200
  • 1830-0700
• No on-call
• May work frequent weekends based on staffing needs
• Holiday coverage only if needed

Orientation

• 8-hour hospital orientation
• 4-hour ED education
• Minimum 2 unit orientation shifts (3 shifts for 48-hour contracts)

Additional Notes

• Navy scrubs
• Free parking
• No PTO requests approved during the first 3 weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally)
• Manager approval required for all time-off requests
