Recruiting and Onboarding Specialist

Job Description Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the recruiter/onboarding specialist will assist with hiring new employees. Responsibilities include scheduling new hire interviews, conducting detailed background checks, training, and processing employment documents. To succeed in this role, you should be able to work in a fast‑paced team environment while ensuring our hiring procedures comply with labor laws. Ultimately, you will ensure our hires get a warm welcome and experience smooth onboarding to their new roles. Responsibilities Conduct initial review and screening of applicants for suitability of skills, experience, and education for vacant positions. Refer qualified applicants to program managers in a timely and effective manner. Participate in events related to recruitment (e.g., job fairs, college visits, etc.) as needed. Accurately complete all requisite documentation and processes related to recruitment administration. Conduct detailed background checks. Schedule training sessions with the Director of Training. Send out a warm welcome email introducing new hires to current employees. Add new employees’ information to the company’s payroll system. Communicate with new hires before their start date to provide necessary information (e.g., work schedules and contract details). Process employment paperwork. Gather candidate experience feedback from new hires. Support the mission and vision of the organization. Perform other related duties as requested by supervisor. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications BS in Human Resources Management or similar field required. Experience as a recruiter or in a relevant HR role. Experience in the nonprofit, human services industry, preferred. Experience with ADP Workforce Now ATS, preferred. Excellent time management, verbal and written communication skills. Confidentiality and good work ethics. Valid unrestricted NYS driver’s license with the ability to travel. Bi‑lingual a plus but not required. Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to think clearly in stressful situations, high stress tolerance required, and work with frequent interruptions. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours are required.
