Position Description The Welder is responsible for timely and efficient welding and fabricating of material at jobsites and/or facility. This role’s objective is to safely, accurately, and productively move and produce material that satisfies internal and external customers. What can you expect from the job? Starting pay of $19.50/hr plus $2.50/hr shift differential, with higher pay based on experience 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., Monday-Friday Weekly pay On-the-job training Moderately stressful and constantly changing work environment Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of material up to 51lbs Pay and Benefits Starting pay of $19.50/hr plus $2.50/hr shift differential, with higher pay based on experience Quarterly profit sharing bonus opportunity Opportunity to work overtime 401k retirement contribution matching – 50% company match up to 6% of your annual wages Company covers about 80% of the cost of medical insurance for you and your family Company covers 100% of the cost for a life‑insurance policy Company covers 100% of the cost for both short and long‑term disability insurance policies Annual holiday bonus based on company performance Children of long‑term employees can apply for company scholarships Paid personal time available for use as it accrues (max of one week per year) One week of paid vacation after 6 months Two weeks of paid vacation after one year Primary Responsibilities Attend all scheduled safety, department, and company meetings as required Communicate issues with fixtures, customer prints, material issues, welding equipment, and supporting welding equipment and power/hand tools used in the welding process Follow and enforce company safety policies and safe work practices at all times to ensure safety of self and others Establish priorities for efficiently staging, processing, and packaging materials Accept responsibility for all aspects of the work produced Inspect and verify all aspects of the material when receiving, producing, or packaging size, grade, measurements, heat, quantity, etc. Scrutinize customer requirements and special instructions to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction Confirm materials and parts are produced to print Ensure inventory is accurate Ensure audit and material traceability procedures are being followed throughout the process Physical & Work Requirements Working at a job site or facility within OSHA guidelines; conditions may be heated and/or unheated, dusty and noisy; steel‑toed boots required daily Must work with hot welding processes and products Facility is a multiple shift operation. Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule and be on‑call at various times including possible weekends and holidays Fast‑paced moderately stressful, constantly changing day‑to‑day work environment Job is performed under some temperature extremes Ability to stand, walk, or be mobile for up to eight hours per shift. Capable of ascending and descending material handling equipment Ability to lift up to 51 pounds as needed. Pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 50 pounds Wear proper PPE at all times (as described in company policy) Required Background, Competencies & Expertise Understanding of SPS policies and procedures Basic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) knowledge, use of associated tools and welding relevant equipment Ability to effectively read and use a tape measure, caliper, and micrometer Proven ability to read and understand prints, documents, and/or drawings Proven experience operating material handling equipment Experience operating fabrication equipment Safety orientation Mechanical comprehension Achievement orientation Responsibility Thoroughness / Detail orientation Persistence Communication Teamwork Strong computer, tablet, or mobile device skills High School diploma or G.E.D.
