Staff Nurse (OB) HRC-160 (Sign-on Bonus!)

Job Summary CA licensed Registered Nurse with one year acute care experience during the past two years. Minimum 2 years L & D experience and recent Mother-Baby/Newborn experience and clinical knowledge required. Successful fetal monitoring class completed every two years. Physical ability to perform all nursing duties. Provides direct patient care in the Maternal Child Health setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Duties/Responsibilities Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments per policy, including maternal and infant populations. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques, and educate the patient and family regarding pain management. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient age. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included as appropriate. Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Performs treatments and provides services as required by licensure level. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other providers. Consults other departments for interdisciplinary approach to patient needs. Communicates appropriately to nurse director, co‑workers, and physicians. Maintains good working relationships within and across departments. Coordinates social services or discharge planning for in‑hospital and post‑discharge needs. Documents labor activity using approved NICHD terminology. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and function under stress. May be oriented to Charge Nurse duties upon completion of 2 years of total experience as labor & delivery nurse. Required Skills/Abilities Experience providing perinatal, gynecological, and newborn care as per Maternal Child Health scope. Documentation of current NICHD terminology. Current California Registered Nurse licensure. Current BCLS & ACLS certifications. Current NRP certification. STABLE certification preferred. Successful completion of fetal monitoring class every two years. Effective communication in English, written and verbal. Additional languages preferred. Basic computer knowledge. Proficient charting. One year or more of documented acute care experience during the past two years. Recent labor & delivery experience (minimum two years) required. Recent mother‑baby/newborn experience and clinical knowledge required. Meets unit expectations for annual education and competency training.
