ED Surge Unit (Full-time, Day Shift) Job Summary: In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Manager-Patient Care provides administrative, human resource and financial management for designated area(s) that provide direct and indirect patient care for a designated age-specific population with a defined scope of service. Demonstrates leadership behaviors and performance accomplishments that are expected of effective nurse leaders. Participates in the nursing strategic planning process and aligns service goals and objectives with the mission, vision and values of the organization. Ensures area(s) of responsibility comply with requirements of planning, regulatory, inspecting agencies and Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta's (LLUMC-M) policies. Mentors and coaches charge nurses and staff in transforming culture, processes and clinical practice that meets the demands of cutting-edge health care delivery and nursing excellence. Provides leadership in the conversion of care to evidenced-based practice at the bedside with emphasis on safety initiatives, quality care and best practices supported by innovative technology. Assists Executive Director in developing, implementing and maintaining a unit/department-specific performance improvement and patient safety program utilizing tools such as the Six Sigma framework of define, measure, analyze, implement and control. Participates in on-call rotation for designated area(s) as necessary. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, or, Associate's Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field and a Master's Degree in Nursing required. Minimum three years nursing experience which has provided opportunity to demonstrate competencies in clinical nursing, leadership or education required. Knowledge and Skills: Substantial knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations, finance, performance improvement, quality, patient safety, evidenced-based clinical practice standards, medical staff structure and legal aspects of care required. Knowledge of adult learning principles, management and problem-solving methodologies. Exhibits professional behavior and appearance at all times. Able to speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; use sound judgment based on factual information and clinical knowledge; work independently with minimal supervision; meet deadlines; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve in a proactive and creative manner; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; exhibit professional behavior at all times. Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse Licensure required. Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
