Senior Backend Engineer

Role Description
b.well's Provider Directory is the data backbone that helps millions of people find the right doctor, connect to their health records, and take control of their care. You will own the ingestion, data quality, and operational layer of the provider directory.
- Design and build scalable data ingestion pipelines that onboard new provider data sources.
- Own data quality end-to-end: define validation rules, confidence scores, and quality thresholds.
- Build AI-powered data tooling for entity resolution, relationship inference, and quality scoring.
- Operate and evolve existing Spark-based pipelines orchestrated by Prefect on AWS.
- Establish data governance standards for the provider directory.
- Partner with Analytics to build data quality dashboards and reporting.
- Lead incident response when data issues arise and build observability to catch problems.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in building and operating data-intensive systems at scale.
- Deep Python proficiency.
- Experience with Spark or Databricks for distributed data processing.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Prefect or Airflow.
- Experience with relational and document databases (MongoDB and OpenSearch).
- Cloud-native fundamentals: AWS (S3, ECS/EKS, Lambda), Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD with GitHub Actions.
- Strong ownership instincts and clear communication skills.
- Healthcare or FHIR experience is a strong plus.

- Ability to investigate data quality gaps and propose fixes.
- Experience working with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders.
- Capability to explain data problems and proposed solutions to non-engineers.
