Sr Automation Engineer
Twist Bioscience
Twist Bioscience seeks a senior automation engineer to develop and maintain liquid handling methods for DNA synthesis operations. The role involves deploying automated solutions across diverse laboratory equipment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and maintain automated liquid handling methods supporting high-throughput workflows
- Provide hands-on support for liquid handlers, bulk dispensers, analytical instrumentation, and integrated automation systems
- Lead validation projects, author technical documentation, and maintain production systems
- Collaborate with Operations, R&D, and Quality to optimize processes and integrate hardware with LIMS
- Evaluate manufacturer software and automation offerings, building in-house solutions when necessary
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field
- 7+ years industry experience in laboratory automation
- 5+ years hands-on experience programming robotic liquid handlers, particularly Hamilton systems
- Demonstrated ability to translate manual assays to automated workstations or integrated platforms
- Experience with sample tracking software, LIMS interfaces, and software requirements development
- Strong scientific computation, data analysis, and problem-solving capabilities
