Vice President of Development

Role Description The Vice President of Development is a full-time, hybrid role based in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area, with a mix of on-site and work-from-home responsibilities. This leader oversees all aspects of fundraising and development, including strategy, execution, and evaluation of philanthropy initiatives that support Morrison’s mission and long-term sustainability. Day-to-day responsibilities include guiding annual and planned giving programs, cultivating and stewarding donors, managing major gift portfolios, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to advance organizational priorities. The role also involves overseeing development-related budgeting, setting revenue targets, monitoring performance metrics, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and ethical standards. The Vice President of Development leads and mentors the development team, coordinates cross-functional projects, and represents Morrison at community events, donor meetings, and partner engagements. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in philanthropy and fundraising, including experience designing and leading Annual Giving and Planned Giving programs. Strong financial acumen with skills in Budgeting, revenue forecasting, and aligning development strategies with organizational financial goals. Proven Project Management abilities, including planning, executing, and evaluating complex development initiatives across multiple stakeholders. Experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual, corporate, and foundation donors, with a track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets. Leadership experience managing and developing teams, fostering collaboration, and promoting inclusive, trauma-informed organizational culture. Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse communities and partners. Knowledge of nonprofit development best practices, donor databases/CRM systems, and relevant legal and ethical standards in fundraising. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related discipline); advanced degree or CFRE certification is a plus.
