About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes. EPIC experience preferred. Description: The unit has a total of 56 beds, including private and semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health issues. RNs are not required to titrate drips, but common medications include Heparin and Lasix. There is a charge nurse on each shift, who does not take a patient assignment. Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, accuchecks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory equipment available includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, and the administration of inhalers and suctioning is part of the nursing duties. Telemetry is monitored remotely, and RNs can view strips on a device or computer. Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable, with no visible tattoos or piercings except for earrings. RNs may be required to float to other acute care general medicine areas as needed. Unit-specific orientation is comprised of 2-3 shifts.
