Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor

Reports To: Executive Director of Facilities Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req7153 Employment Type: Full-Time Support Staff Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: 7:00am to 3:00pm Number of Openings: 1 Job Summary Works under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager to plan, coordinate, and direct the work activities of the Building Maintenance and Building Service Worker components of the Plant Operations Department. May also coordinate and direct the work activities of the Grounds Maintenance component of the Plant Operations Department as needed in the absence of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. Essential Functions Plan, coordinate, and direct the work activities of the Building Maintenance and Building Service Worker components of the Plant Operations Department. Maintain, repair, and ensure the physical condition of campus and equipment, including various mechanical and systems. Operate all machinery and equipment necessary to perform duties. Assist in the supervision of contracted work on construction projects. Study production schedules and estimate worker‑hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules. Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving problems. Review and approve timesheets. Develop thorough knowledge of department operations and procedures. Interpret company policies and enforce safety regulations. Conduct performance reviews of all reporting employees. Physically work alongside reporting employees to demonstrate job‑specific expectations and to further develop their skills. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Education and Experience/Training Associate’s Degree Significant related experience may substitute for education. Minimum of five years of relevant work experience in facilities maintenance. Valid Ohio Driver’s license with the ability to meet the College’s insurability requirements. Minimum of two years supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department. Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem‑solving methods in a variety of situations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Familiarity using maintenance tools and equipment in a facilities environment. Intermediate project management skills. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational, time‑management skills, and results‑oriented mindset. Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing work environment requiring flexibility and teamwork. Ability to develop, foster, and cultivate relationships, create opportunities and solve problems. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects. Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and quality. Ability to physically perform mechanical work with subordinates to complete maintenance and repair work assignments. Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of students and the community. Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others in a union environment. Demonstrated experience working in an academic environment. Demonstrated experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System. Previous experience using a Computerized Management Controls System. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.; Work may also require the ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs unassisted. Work may also require the ability to routinely climb/utilize full-size ladders unassisted. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Target Starting Salary Range $65,000 to $70,000. The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirements.
