American Sign Language Interpreter

Provide effective and qualified interpretation services between students who are Deaf or hard of hearing and others in the educational environment in order to assist in the provision of equitable communication access in accordance with federal and state guidelines.

Interpret all interactions, activities, materials, and assessments, abiding by state/federal guidelines, the RID/NAD Code of Professional Conduct, and the NAIE Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics.

Collaborate and participate in development and implementation of the assigned student's IEP or 504 as a related service provider in accordance with state/federal guidelines.

Match the language and communication needs of the student(s) and situation.

Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding accessibility of school curriculum, activities, and environment.

Maintain interpreter observations and applicable student records.

Prepare for interpreting by reviewing course materials and doing research as needed.

Participate in ongoing training as is applicable.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch; lift/move up to 20 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of fingers and hands.

Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Adequate to exchange information.
