Floater - Outdoor Nature-Based Program (Casual)

Position Overview Classroom Floater for the Outdoor Nature-Based (ONB) and Child Development Center classrooms. Supports teaching staff in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages six weeks through six years old. Mobile between classrooms as needed. Location: PCC Sylvania Campus. Position is full‑grant funded from September through June of an academic year. Requires availability of grant funding for continued employment. Responsibilities Supervise children in the ONB and Child Development Center classrooms. Step into classrooms to provide breaks, planning time, and support for individual classroom staff. Assist teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and programs. Facilitate learning activities across developmental domains, including art, music, and dramatic play. Maintain a safe, healthy, orderly, and nurturing classroom environment and intervene if necessary. Set up classroom materials and playground equipment; monitor equipment for safety and report needed repairs. Assist with cleaning up classrooms and playgrounds after activities. Prepare and serve breakfast, snacks, and lunch to children in accordance with safety and sanitary regulations; clean up after meals. Model appropriate behavior and assist program students in the classroom. Maintain accurate classroom records (attendance, schedules, accident reports, child information sheets, etc.). Maintain a friendly and professional manner with parents; direct specific parent questions to the Mentor Teacher. Be available for all hours of program operations, including opening and closing duties. Implement requirements set by the Department of Early Learning and Care Child Care Licensing Division Rules, NAEYC, and SPARK accreditation. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field, or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. At least one year of experience providing group care for young children. Good oral communication skills. Required certifications: First Aid, Food Handler, Child Abuse & Neglect within 30 days of hire. Enroll in and maintain a background registry with the Department of Early Learning and Care. Complete Health and Safety, Safe Sleep training, and 10 hours (or one college quarter credit) of nature-based education training approved by DELC before first day working with children. Knowledge of early childhood education principles, local, state, and federal laws, health and wellness of children, program evaluation, office procedures, recordkeeping, first aid and CPR. Ability to implement age-appropriate curriculum, administer center policies, provide basic nutrition and hygiene services, communicate effectively, and maintain working relationships. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work may involve flexibility and adaptation between classrooms and varying ages. The role features occasional noise, temperature changes, and exposure to adverse weather during ONB class time. Physical duties include lifting, bending, squatting to child level, setting up equipment, carrying supplies. Some safety hazards and irregular schedules may occur. Compensation & Benefits Hourly rate: $16.30 - $24.95. Eligibility for certain benefits such as Oregon Sick Leave and retirement savings plans may be available for new casual employees.
