SUMMARY

Community Unit School District 200 is seeking a dynamic, energetic Middle School Physical Education (Long-term Guest Teacher) teacher who maintains a positive learning environment, holds high academic expectations, and creates a student-centered classroom while building rapport with students, parents, and staff. We are looking for exceptional candidates who will assist our schoolsin creating an exemplary learning community where everyone seeks and implements strategies for improving student achievement and growth. This person will work collaboratively in professional learning communities to achieve goals with a common purpose focused on student learning.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S)

Current State of Illinois Professional Education License with secondary and physical education endorsements required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide instruction to a class, individual students, or groups of students using a variety of instructional strategies. Plan lessons, including activities such as preparing learning objectives and goals and designing formative and summative assessments. Facilitate learning in the classroom (e.g., maintain discipline; encourage participation; consult with parents, school staff, and other care providers to identify and address social, emotional, and developmental needs.) Maintain records and document student progress (e.g., record grades and absences, provide progress reports.) Maintain contact with parents in regard to student performance through activities such as parent-teacher conferences, phone communications, progress reports, letters, and special meetings. Maintain professional development through such activities as classes, conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional journals. Perform various administrative activities (e.g., attend faculty and staff meetings, maintain equipment and supplies, copy materials, and coordinate department activities.) Prepare lesson materials, supplies, and equipment. Monitor student behavior both inside and outside the classroom (e.g., during class, in hallways between classes, and during assemblies, extracurricular activities meetings or events, fire drills, or other group activities.) Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently State of Illinois licensure in subject and level of assignment. Broad base of experience working with a diverse range of learners from AP or honors levels to at-risk populations. Must possess a broad educational foundation in subject area and desire to instruct all ability levels. Must be willing to work as a contributing member of course or Professional Learning Community to improve instructional practices and curriculum that benefit student achievement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Some movement throughout the classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g., standing walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and/or kneeling). Light lifting of materials and other objects associated with a classroom environment is required (e.g., books, teaching aides, up to approximately 20 - 40 lbs.) Special Education Teachers may also be required to pick up students, restrain students as needed, and spend large quantities of time on the floor sitting, squatting, and/or kneeling. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
