We are seeking an experienced, “hands -on” Engineering Manager / Director for our premier growing precision machining organization. Our business is once again scaling rapidly, as we produce mission critical components for some of the world’s most recognizable OEMs in Defense, Medical and other major markets. Reporting directly to the President & CEO and serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role leads Engineering, Estimating, and Quality functions. The Engineering Manager is responsible for driving technical excellence, operational efficiency, quality performance, vendor accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization. Working closely with Operations, Finance, and Sales, this leader will ensure accurate and competitive cost estimates, robust manufacturing processes, and the consistent delivery of high-quality products. Success in this role requires strong leadership, project management, machining and manufacturing expertise (metal and plastic), customer-facing communication skills, and a commitment to operational excellence. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, effectively manages multiple priorities, and brings a strong sense of urgency and accountability. They are comfortable working alongside frontline manufacturing teams, leading a small staff, collaborating with key customers, and developing practical technical solutions. As a senior leader, they will also support budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and Board of Directors presentations. Position Summary Leadership and Team Development Lead, coach, mentor, and develop cross-functional engineering, estimating, quality, programming, and related technical teams. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Function as a liaison between engineering, the customers, and the manufacturing operations. Partner with department leaders to align engineering priorities with business objectives. Engineering and Manufacturing Support Provide firsthand technical input where applicable for CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, process development, co-bots, technical solutions, and manufacturing optimization. Support process development, standardization, and implementation of best practices. Participate in machining strategy, tooling decisions, and manufacturability reviews. Troubleshoot production, process, and quality-related issues. Drive technical productivity improvements, cycle time reductions, and quality enhancements. Ensure engineering documentation, routings, work instructions, and technical standards are accurate and maintained. Drive and lead “failure mode” analysis in the event of errant manufacturing processes. Estimating and Business Performance Lead the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and quotations. Review customer drawings, and specifications, to determine manufacturing feasibility and cost. Develop labor, material, tooling, and subcontract cost estimates. Analyze job performance, margins, and quote accuracy to improve profitability. Collaborate with Sales and Operations on technical reviews, customer proposals, and new business opportunities. Monitor quote performance and implement improvements to increase accuracy and win rates. Quality and Compliance Manage the Quality team to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. Ensure robust traceability, configuration control, and document management practices. Support inspection processes, documentation, and audit readiness. Drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions. Promote a proactive quality culture across the organization. Oversee quality system maintenance and recertification activities as required. Champion a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. Operational and Strategic Leadership Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Support capital planning, technology investments, and manufacturing expansion efforts. Develop, manage departmental budgets, and resource allocation. Monitor KPIs related to engineering effectiveness, quote accuracy, productivity, and profitability. Align engineering capabilities with long-term business growth goals. Customer and Supplier Engagement Interface with customers on technical requirements, manufacturability reviews, and project execution. Support customer audits, new product introductions, and technical presentations. Collaborate with suppliers and outside service providers to improve quality, delivery, and cost performance. New Product Introduction (NPI) Lead engineering activities related to new product introduction and process transfer. Support PPAP, FAI, validation, and qualification activities as required by customers. Ensure successful launch of complex components. Collaborate with customers to review manufacturing feasibility and tolerance requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience). 7–10+ years of manufacturing / component engineering experience with CNC background and or strong familiarity. Leadership experience managing engineering, estimating, quality, or technical teams. Firsthand knowledge of CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, GD&T, blueprint reading, and manufacturing processes. Experience with quoting, cost analysis, and manufacturing planning.
