About the Position

Job Title: RN II - MED-SURG Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: Varies based on patient care ratio Experience: Minimum one year in medical-surgical specialty License: Current RN license in state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor Must-Have: Current Epic experience Description: Responsible for the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients on the medical-surgical unit. This position addresses age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Includes care planning, vital signs monitoring, medication dosages, and assessment of physiological changes and psychosocial needs. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in both stable and emergent patient situations. Competent in all routine nursing skills including medication administration and intravenous therapy including blood products. Responsible for care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains. Ensures safe use of medical equipment commonly used in the medical-surgical setting. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with healthcare team members. Educates patients and families regarding care using appropriate teaching methods tailored to the age, condition, culture, and learning-readiness of the patient. Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided. Completes accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care, including the evaluation of patient's responses to medications, treatments, and procedures. Participates in the orientation and training of new employees and ancillary staff. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement in care services and unit operations. Open to change and striving for new goals within the unit. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Committed to the safety and wellbeing of associates and patients.
