As a Server Assistant at Costa Covo, restaurant and bar, you play an integral role in creating an exceptional guest experience. In this role, you will support overall restaurant operations, maintain a clean and organized work area and provide exceptional hospitality through your professionalism, attention to detail, and guest-focused approach. Your ability to anticipate guest needs and create positive interactions will help set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.

Job Summary:

• Deliver exceptional guest service by greeting, seating, assisting, and supporting all servers and bartenders in dining areas; handling guest requests and running food and beverage items, ensuring guest satisfaction.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of food and beverage offerings, including specials, to answer questions and make recommendations.
• Be perceptive, proactive, and engaging. Anticipate and personalize the guest experience when possible; remember your guest and their requests. Support VIP and special occasion service, encourage repeat visits, and professionally resolve guest concerns by escalating issues to management when necessary.
• Set up, organize, and maintain dining rooms, service stations, bars, and patio, including arranging furniture, tables, chairs, umbrellas, heaters, and other guest amenities according to established standards.
• Monitor and maintain the cleanliness, appearance, safety, and organization of dining, bar, and service areas by clearing and sanitizing tables of used dishes, glassware, flatware, napkins, and bringing to kitchen for sorting.
• Resetting furniture and tables to standard, removing debris and trash, and ensuring all areas remain guest-ready throughout the day.
• Complete all opening, closing, side work, and pre-service duties, including stocking and replenishing supplies and ice bins, preparing service items, polishing glassware and flatware, napkins, organizing inventory, and performing assigned deep-cleaning tasks.
• Maintain inventory and availability of operational supplies, including beverages, trays, service items, condiments, amenities, and other guest-use products.
• Demonstrate knowledge of table and seat numbers and operate efficiently and professionally during high-volume, fast-paced, and high-stress service periods.
• Follow all food safety, allergy awareness, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service practices, including communicating allergy concerns, recognizing signs of intoxication and refusing alcohol service when appropriate.
• Report maintenance, equipment, furniture, or facility issues promptly to the appropriate department and coordinate with housekeeping, engineering, and other departments to ensure seamless guest service.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment by collaborating with colleagues, assisting team members as needed, and maintaining open communication with management regarding guest or employee concerns.
• Understand and use safe work practices for all safety precautions including Emergency Evacuation Procedures, Violence in the Workplace, Accident Reporting, OSHA Compliance, and Bloodborne Pathogen Procedures.
• Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
• Comply with all policies as outlined in the Handbook, Property Supplement, or otherwise issued including time and attendance expectations, uniform and dress code standards, anti-harassment policy, and substances in the workplace.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management to support departmental and operational needs.

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Ability to remain standing for up to 8 hours.
• Ability to remain in a standing or walking position for 90% of shift, given moderate rest breaks.
• Ability to walk the property, move up and down stairs regularly.
• Ability to move quickly based on guest needs.
• Ability to regularly move and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to use repetitive manual dexterity, such as writing, typing in orders, polishing, rolling silverware.
• Ability to bend, kneel, stretch, and reach frequently, including above head, and repetitively during a shift.
• Ability to visibly survey property areas clearly.
• Ability to view a digital computer/tablet screen.
• Ability to communicate and exchange information effectively, often in a public/group setting.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to complete a satisfactory background check
• Ability to perform assigned tasks, operate equipment, and complete job duties in a safe manner
• Flexible schedule - Willing and able to work shift duties that may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Working Environment:

• Work will primarily take place in a hotel resort and restaurant environment, in both guest-facing and employee back of house areas.
• Some seasonal exterior work with exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
• Group and solo work.
• Exposure to various hazardous chemicals, to be used only as instructed.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

• Prior experience in a restaurant setting preferred, but not required.
• High School diploma/GED.
• Strong beverage knowledge with understanding of cocktail recipes, spirits, wine, and beer.
• Able to complete a satisfactory background check.
• Available and willing to work flexible hours based on business needs including weekdays and weekends.
• Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Expresses sincere enthusiasm for the role and passion for food and beverage.
• Must know how to prioritize, delegate, and respond in a timely fashion. Able to work under pressure, multi-task, and stay focused while maintaining hospitality.
• Ability to use standard software applications and hotel systems.
• Knowledge of Food & Beverage and operational procedures beneficial.
