Senior Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced Excess Casualty Underwriter to join our well‑established, A+ rated carrier. This role is ideal for a driven underwriting professional who excels in a production‑oriented environment while maintaining disciplined, high‑quality underwriting standards. The ideal candidate has a minimum of five years of experience underwriting complex, non‑admitted casualty accounts, with a proven ability to build strong broker relationships and deliver profitable results. Key Responsibilities Underwrite and price complex non‑admitted excess casualty risk, ensuring alignment with company appetite, profitability goals, and risk tolerance. Drive new business production through proactive broker engagement, territory development, and strategic relationship management. Analyze exposure, loss history, risk controls, and market conditions to make sound underwriting decisions that keep loss ratios low. Structure and negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing for excess casualty placements, including high‑hazard and specialty risks. Maintain a strong command of industry trends, regulatory considerations, and emerging exposures within the E&S casualty marketplace. Collaborate with internal teams (actuarial, claims, risk engineering, operations) to ensure accurate risk evaluation and seamless policy execution. Manage a profitable book of business through disciplined underwriting, portfolio awareness, and continuous monitoring of account performance. Document underwriting rationale clearly and thoroughly in accordance with company guidelines and compliance standards. Represent the company at broker meetings, industry events, and market functions to strengthen brand presence and expand distribution relationships. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in non‑admitted excess casualty with a focus on complex risk. Demonstrated success in a production‑driven underwriting role with consistent profitable growth. Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate multifaceted exposures and apply sound judgment. Proven ability to maintain high underwriting quality and low loss ratio. Established relationships with wholesale brokers and E&S distribution partners. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
