Senior Accounting Manager

Position Summary The Ellis Brooklyn Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, leading month‑end and year‑end close activities, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The Senior Accounting Manager will lead the relationship with our third party accounting agency, and work closely with leadership and cross‑functional teams to support financial operations, improve processes, and contribute to the continued growth of the organization. This role reports into the VP of Finance and works cross functionally with operations, sales and marketing. The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting expertise, exceptional attention to detail, advanced Excel and systems skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Responsibilities Prepare and maintain accurate financial records Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Lead the relationship with our third party accounting agency including streamlining close processes while maintaining efficiency and accuracy Lead the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and supporting schedules Analyze financial data and investigate account variances to ensure reporting accuracy Maintain detailed and well‑documented workpapers for balance sheet accounts, tax support, and key P&L accounts Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and established internal controls Assist with year‑end audits, reviews, and requests from external accountants and auditors Cash Management & Accounts Administration Assist with cash flow tracking, bank reconciliations, and treasury‑related activities Maintain banking records and support management of company credit cards and expense reporting systems Review, support and process vendor payments while ensuring proper documentation and approvals Support the implementation and maintenance of financial controls and accounting procedures Payroll & General Accounting Support payroll processing activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely completion Prepare payroll‑related journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals Partner with cross function teams on payroll reporting, employee deductions and payroll tax compliance Assist with compensation and benefits accounting as needed Tax & Compliance Support external tax advisors by preparing documentation and responding to information requests Assist with multi‑state sales tax and income tax compliance activities Maintain corporate records, registrations, annual filings and compliance documentation Ensure accounting records are complete and audit‑ready Systems & Process Improvement Assist with ERP administration, reporting, and system maintenance Support process improvement initiatives, automation projects, and workflow enhancements Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and KPI tracking tools Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and scalability within accounting processes Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required CPA or CPA candidate preferred 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations and month‑end close processes Experience working with multi‑entity accounting environments preferred Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP systems Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving abilities Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment Industry experience in distribution, e‑commerce, consumer goods, retail or related industries preferred Preferred Experience Experience with Netsuite or similar ERP platforms Experience in distribution and/or e‑commerce businesses Experience with multi‑state tax environments Experience with financial process automation and reporting tools Experience supporting external audits and year‑end reporting processes Compensation The anticipated compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $145,000, based on qualifications, experience, skill set, and other business‑related factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus compensation and additional company benefits.
