Role Description

The purpose of a Medical Assistant at Oak Street Health is to gather all necessary medical information regarding our patients to ensure providers have the most accurate information available when making healthcare decisions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure efficient patient flow; room patients in a timely manner, complete vital signs, screenings, and medication reviews.
• Inventory supplies and stock exam rooms.
• Respond to patient telephonic support requests (e.g., lab results, faxing records to specialists).
• Administer vaccinations and perform point‑of‑care tests (A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws, etc.) in accordance with state regulations.
• Import required documents into EMR via scanning or PDF upload.
• Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations.
• Process orders for durable medical equipment.
• Request medical records from external providers as required by the provider.
• Conduct routine quality control checks including infection control measures, equipment checks and checks for expired medication and supplies, and assist in maintaining the center lab.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• State or national certification (as required by state), or graduation from an accredited medical assistant course.
• Minimum 1 year experience as a medical assistant.
• CPR or BLS certification.
• Electronic Medical Record experience.
• Computer skills: ability to navigate multiple programs (e.g., Gmail, MS Word/Google Docs, Excel/Google Sheets).
• Proficiency in non‑English languages as required by the center’s demographics.
• US work authorization.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum three years in a Medical Assistant role.
• Successful mastery of workflow in previous MA position.
• Appetite for expanded responsibilities, greater clinical experience, and a desire to impact patients’ lives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years experience with geriatric patients.
• Phlebotomy Technician certification.

Compensation

Typical pay range: $18.50 – $35.29 per hour. Pay is based on experience, education, geography, and other factors. Position eligible for bonus, commission, or short‑term incentive program.
