Assistant Principal

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

QUALIFICATIONS: As set by state certification authorities

JOB GOAL: Assist the principal in the areas of leadership, supervision and administration so as to promote the educational development of each student.


TERMS: 215 days, twelve-month year. Salary established annually by the Board


Reports to: Principal


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the principal in the supervision and evaluation of the performance of school personnel in accordance with the district's adopted guidelines.
  • Assist the principal in developing and implementing instructional strategies for all students.
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring proper attendance procedures for students.
  • Strive to create a school climate which is positive and productive for students, staff and community.
  • Attend and participate in student, staff and school related community functions.
  • Interact with parent, student and staff concerns in the effective, timely manner.
  • Return all phone calls from parents/guardians in a timely manner.
  • Participate in district-level activities as assigned by the superintendent.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students.
  • Serve as the principal-designee when so requested by the principal or superintendent.
  • Serve as a contact with police, probation officers and other agencies that deal with attendance and behavioral concerns.
  • Organize and supervise student traffic (halls, cafeteria, buses).
  • Supervise the implementation of emergency drills (fire, tornado, directional postings, state reports, and state inspections).
  • Organize and supervise procedures for substitute teachers including sub folders and prearranged staff absences.
  • Actively participate in the NCA/PBA process.
  • Supervise the annual revision, printing and distribution of the student handbook.
  • Organize and supervise students and adult supervisors in the cafeteria during lunch.
  • Participate in curriculum revision as requested by the principal.
  • Assume responsibility for building security (keys, codes, etc.).
  • Assume responsibility for the assignment and maintenance of student lockers.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the principal.

  • Nurture a positive relationship with super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
  • Demonstrate respect for super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
  • Support corporation decisions and direction relative to matters of policy and administrative directives. Work as a team player.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.
