Customer Service Associate I

Job Title: Customer Service Associate/ Union Represented (Full-Time) Location: John McIntire Library (220 N. Fifth ST. Zanesville, OH 43701) Pay Rate: $15.00 (40 hours per week, varied schedule) Closing Date : October 28, 2026 The Muskingum County Library System is seeking a Customer Service Associate that will provide excellent customer service to our patrons, shelve books and other library materials and maintain orderliness of library stacks. They will perform general customer service functions and may need to make supervisor-level decisions in the absence of the Customer Service Specialist. Job Responsibilities: Maintains the knowledge and flexibility to perform clerical duties in a variety of departments. (ex: Circulation, Technical Services, etc.) Operates library automation system, performs circulation functions and inputs data. Inspects library materials for damage and cleanliness. Cleans and repairs materials as needed. Maintains knowledge of current electronic devices (i.e. eReaders, MP3s, IPods, etc.) and assists customers with the use of computers, printers, and electronic devices. Processes additions and withdrawals of library materials. Answers directional questions in person and over the telephone. Responds to customer concerns regarding issues specific to Circulation and Technical Services. Collects and counts money contained in cash registers and coin operated library equipment, as requested. Distributes in-coming mail to library employees and processes outgoing mail, as requested. Sets up audio-visual equipment for meeting room and auditorium use as needed. Maintains files and records and gathers library statistics. Shelves materials and keeps collections in order. Supplies copier and fax machine with paper and/or toner as needed. Qualifications : High school diploma or equivalent; availability to work evenings and weekends. Knowledge, skills and abilities : Skill in providing high-quality customer service. Ability to learn library policies and procedures; ability to alphabetize, file and perform basic clerical tasks. Ability to communicate effectively; ability to work unsupervised. Skill in use of electronic devices such as computers, phones, tablets and eReaders.
