Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students across elementary, middle, and high schools as a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Beginning August 24th and running through May 28th, this contract position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact throughout the academic year while traveling across a dynamic district in the Kansas City, MO area.

Key Qualifications:

• Current national-level ACVREP certification (often called COMS)
• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, teaching independence skills
• Proficient in guiding students in using canes, guide dogs, and urban navigation
• Ability to provide clear, effective evaluations and individualized support plans
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Flexibility to travel between multiple schools within the district

Primary Responsibilities:

• Direct instruction of students with vision loss, teaching safe independent travel and orientation strategies
• Instruction on daily living skills such as grocery shopping, reading Braille, and money management
• Conduct thorough assessments and contribute to the development of IEPs
• Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to ensure student success
• Maintain student progress reports and follow best practices in O&M instruction
• Participate in district-offered orientation sessions and ongoing professional support
