JOB DESCRIPTION

The Reich Construction team is looking for a seasoned Director of Construction Operations with deep, hands-on experience in pre-engineered steel buildings, metal building erection, and design-build projects. This is a senior leadership role for someone who has spent their career in steel construction - someone who can walk onto any job site, read the situation, and solve the problem before it becomes costly.

The Director of Construction Operations sits directly alongside the CEO as the #2 leader in the organization. They are the definitive source of truth for all daily field and office operations, and the person every project manager, superintendent, and field crew member answers to. The application code word is EMPOWER. This leader is a highly skilled strategic thinker who anticipates and solves problems in a self-directed way, building a team around them that moves fast while maintaining quality and culture.

Construction does not run on a 9-to-5 schedule - and neither does this role. Field crews operate across multiple states, and when a problem surfaces on a job site on a Sunday afternoon or before sunrise on a holiday, this leader is the first call. The right candidate has been that person before and takes pride in it.

This role will lead Reich Construction through a critical chapter of growth - from $6-7 million toward $20 million in revenue. With $36 million sitting in the sales pipeline and a CEO focused exclusively on high-ticket sales and architectural design, the Director of Construction Operations will own everything that happens once a contract is signed.

This is a full-time W2 position based in Glenwood, Maryland. Given the critical nature of this role, we host a rigorous, 4-part application process.

RESPONSIBILITIES (TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ROLE):

• Serve as the ultimate operational authority and single source of truth for all daily field and office operations - the definitive #2 to the CEO
• Oversee and manage all active commercial construction projects, with the technical depth to diagnose problems, support site teams, and resolve issues on pre-engineered steel and design-build contracts
• Enforce a strict chain of command, permanently ending the culture of "answer shopping" where field crews and legacy employees bypass middle management for preferred answers
• Protect the CEO's time by absorbing all project minutiae, including early morning job site calls and personnel disputes
• Empower and protect key operators by establishing hard boundaries that prevent administrative overreach into field crew scheduling and project management
• Drive full adoption and compliance of Monday.com, Salesforce, and BuilderTrend across the organization, eliminating manual data entry and Excel-based workflows
• Build and implement a field training system capable of onboarding and developing new crew members at scale - creating the internal knowledge infrastructure needed to triple field capacity without sacrificing quality or safety standards
• Oversee recruitment and build a reliable pipeline to grow field crew capacity from 15 to 30-40 professionals
• Collaborate with the CFO to transition company accounting off QuickBooks Cloud and onto specialized construction accounting software
• Redesign and optimize company systems to maximize project fulfillment, quality, and scalability across high-margin design-build contracts

REQUIREMENTS (EXPECTED PROFICIENCIES):

• Direct, senior-level experience managing or overseeing pre-engineered steel building projects, metal building erection, or design-build commercial construction - this is the single most critical requirement for this role. Residential or warehouse-only backgrounds will not be considered.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex field problems on steel construction projects - when something goes wrong on site, you are the person who knows what to do and gets it solved.
• Functional Spanish communication skills are required - our field crews are 100% Latino and on-site communication depends on it. Full bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience scaling a construction company through a $20 million growth phase, with a deep understanding of the personnel, crew management, and systems required to sustain that volume.
• Demonstrated success taking underutilized technology stacks and driving adoption across an organization - specifically Monday.com, Salesforce, and BuilderTrend.
• Operationally available beyond standard business hours - construction projects don't pause for weekends or holidays, and you take pride in being the person who answers the call and solves the problem, no matter when it comes in.
• Immune to office politics and tenure-based pressure - you hold the line in the face of pushback from legacy employees and administration without caving.
• Strong manager - you are fulfilled by building and leading teams, and you take pride in holding people to high performance standards consistently and fairly.
• Data-driven decision maker - you rely on objective data such as project margins, crew skill sets, and software KPIs rather than emotional preferences or "the way we've always done it."
• Candid and direct communicator with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills across multiple concurrent projects and job sites.
• Self-starter who manages team and deadlines without direct supervision across a distributed, multi-state operation.

BENEFITS

• Salary range of $130,000 to $200,000 commensurate with experience, plus bonus structure
