Job Overview This position, under the direct supervision of the Superintendent, is a key role within the Golf Course Maintenance operations of the East Course. The primary responsibility is to assist in managing the daily operations of the East Course and support the First Assistant Superintendent in developing and executing daily tasks and chemical and fertility plans. Essential Functions Train, motivate and supervise staff capable of performing the tasks associated with maintaining the golf course. Assist in planning, scheduling and monitoring the daily operations, including responsibility for coordinating and assigning work. Review the golf course daily and give feedback to both GCS and the First Assistant Superintendent to ensure agronomic and maintenance standards and departmental goals are met. Assist the First Superintendent in documenting and filing daily records for each team member’s assignments, including job task and completion time. Work directly with AITs monitoring golf course playing conditions primarily related to intense moisture‑management programs; follow up and check random areas to ensure proper techniques and guidelines are followed. Build relationships with interns and work closely with the Superintendent on specific plans and strategies to ensure interns’ success. Ensure team members properly use, clean and fuel equipment in the morning/afternoon; return all assigned small equipment to the small equipment room and sign it back in. Maintain accurate logging of information and data for all departmental record‑keeping, such as rainfall, daily weather conditions, moisture management and any additional information pertaining to the intense agronomic program. Discuss daily schedules, programs and concerns with leadership, emphasizing efficient management and quality control; bring all issues and concerns to leadership promptly to reduce potential negative impact. Observe the golf course daily concerning intense maintenance programs and assist with adjusting and modifying programs. Prioritize staff training and safety. Maintain pesticide license and pursue continual education in the field of concern or related areas. Ensure organization of the GCM facility, equipment and grounds. Qualifications Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and Experience Two‑or four‑year certificate from a college or technical school; or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Texas State License as pesticide applicator. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply calibration of pesticide and fertilizer. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two‑step instructions; deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Driver’s License; Valid Texas Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
