JOB SUMMARYWorks under minimal supervision to provide advanced administrative guidance and direction for Office of Accounting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSJob DutiesManage Financial Reporting and Accounting Operations divisions, including the development of work plans and annual performance evaluations for professional and clerical accounting staff.Establish priorities of tasks and responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely completion.Preparation of annual financial report in compliance with UT System and State Comptroller guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles. Monthly, quarterly and annual internal reports and other periodic reports filed with external agencies.Responsible for monitoring and reporting on Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) liability.Responsible for design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provide reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable.Coordinates audits performed by independent firms. Designs and implements policy and procedure changes based on findings.Oversee accounting activity of 501(c)3 corporations affiliated with UT Southwestern.Bank and general ledger reconciliations and monitoring of state appropriation expenditures.Manage and control automated voucher postings from various accounting sub-systems.Manage and control periodic accounting system closings.Monitoring various accounting reports to ensure accuracy and correctness of financial information.Read and interpret current reporting requirements of various agencies, e.g., State Comptroller, UT System, FASB, GASB.Recommend new or enhanced automated reporting processes and procedures.Maintain written policies and procedures for divisions.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceRequiredEducationBachelor's Degree in related field.Experience7 years progressively responsible, related experience to include at least three (3) years in supervisory capacity.PreferredEducationMaster's DegreeLicenses and Certifications(CPA) CERT PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesWork requires ability to manage and direct staff.Work requires ability to monitor and maintain budget.Work requires ability to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures of university.Work requires ability to work with confidential information on a daily basis.Work requires ability to effectively interpret and apply organizational policies, procedures, and systems.Work requires good interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, and analytical skills.Work requires demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and exercise decision-making and problem solving skills.Work requires ability to read, write, develop plans, procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to accomplish goals.Work requires ability to communicate clearly.Work requires knowledge of personal computers.Work may require ability to lead committees as appropriate.Work may require telephone and personal contact with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONSWorking ConditionsOffice SettingPACT STATEMENTThe following is the acronym, "PACT", and is fundamental to all non-clinical positions at UT Southwestern Medical Center:P-Problem Solving: Employees take ownership in solving problems effectively, efficiently, and to the satisfaction of customers, or managers.
