Provider (Vestibular Audiologist) SITE OF SERVICE Walter Reed POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS Degree: Master’s degree in audiology or Doctor of Audiology (Au.D) degree or other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Internship/Residency: N/A Board Certification: N/A Certifications: National certification (Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language-Hearing Association) or American Board of Audiology (ABA) certification. Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands‑on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross: Basic Life Support (BLS) Experience: Minimum two years within the last five years to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service‑specific credentialing instructions, preferably in an outpatient setting. Must have recent experience conducting vestibular evaluations and be comfortable treating patients with abnormal findings. Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands. U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract. DUTIES Engage in the differential diagnosis of the full range of hearing problems associated with 1) functional 2) mixed 3) conductive 4) sensory 5) neural 6) sensorineural and 7) central hearing losses. Demonstrate advanced competence in areas to include advanced audiologic and electrophysiologic evaluation, comprehensive tinnitus assessment and treatment, bio‑electric implanted devices, advanced vestibular assessment and treatment/management, and amplification and signal processing technology. In diagnosing these problems, the Contractor shall conduct and interpret the complete range of specialized and refined audiological test procedures currently available. Audiologists diagnose audiologic disorders, conduct audiologic or neuro‑audiologic assessments, treat auditory disorders through various modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for the treatment of medical disorders. Demonstrate competence in the operation and maintenance of diverse and specialized audiometric equipment including computer facilities and adjunct components. Utilize patient records, patient performance, and family interviews and counseling as they contribute essential data in the diagnostic process and appropriate patient care. Organizes clinical data systematically for effective retrieval for clinic and investigational requirements. Be responsible for analyzing problems that occur in the delivery of services, collection of related data and information, and implementing solutions and follow‑up plans to assure that the actions were appropriate. Assess the nature, type, and severity of hearing/communication/vestibular disorders that identifies and evaluates individuals with hearing disorders in the reception and perception of speech, language, and other acoustic signals. Administer full range of tests including auditory evoked potentials, video nystagmography, tinnitus, and balance assessment; evaluates the type and degree of hearing loss; administers compensation and pension evaluations and provides an expert opinion regarding etiology of auditory dysfunctions as needed. Provide relevant and timely information and assists with decision‑making and process improvement. Complete training to obtain knowledge and maintain competency in the following systems: MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs. Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries. Complete orientation/competency verification programs IAW unit guidelines. When assigned, shall serve and participate in committees, functions and other meetings. When required, participate in the orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate. Comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection/peer review/ utilization management requirements, and applicable system applications. As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services. Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use DoD approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records. (DoDI 6025.13 and DoDM 6055.05) Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters. Respond to beneficiary messages submitted and received in the MHS Genesis secure portal systems within one (1) business day. HOURS The work schedule for each contract worker under a personal services arrangement is as follows between 0600 – 1800 (typical clinic hours are 0700 – 1600, depending on location). Specific work schedule will be assigned by the government service chief for the specific clinical specialty. Base Down Days During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Must be comfortable in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential.
