PRIMARY PURPOSE : Plan, implement, and evaluate the District's elementary school comprehensive program of guidance, including counseling services in area of assignment. Use a planning process to define needs and priorities of population served. Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program for all students to maximize personal growth, development, and post-secondary opportunities. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in guidance and counseling
Valid Texas counselor's certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and preparation for post-secondary opportunities and development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to speak Spanish preferred Experience: Three years teaching experience MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Management
1. Effectively plan and implement the District's comprehensive counseling program at the elementary school, which includes Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support components.
2. Collaborate with school personnel, students, parents, and the community to plan implement, evaluate, and promote continuous improvement of a developmental guidance and counseling program.
3. Evaluate and promote continuous improvement of the balanced comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program. Guidance/Counseling
4. Plan structured lessons to deliver the Elementary Guidance Curriculum effectively and in accordance with students' developmental needs.
5. Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students that facilitate the development of educational goals and a post-secondary awareness plan.
6. Assist teachers in understanding student behavior and social/emotional needs as they relate to classroom learning.
7. Assist in conferences with teacher-student, teacher-parent, and teacher-student-parent.
8. Use accepted theories and effective techniques to promote career, educational, personal, and social development of students. Coordination/Student Assessment
9. Coordinate people and other resources in the school, home, and community to promote student success.
10. Use an effective process when referring students, parents, and/or others to special programs and services.
11. Interpret test results and other assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.
12. Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
13. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of guidance and counseling. Professional Behavior

15. Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.
16. Establish and maintain professional relationships with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, parents, and community members.

19. Develop and maintain effective relationships with students and parents.
20. Facilitate adjustment of new students to school.
21. Assist students in understanding appropriate behavior and behavior management skills at the elementary school level. Consultation
22. Consult with school personnel, parents, and other community members to promote understanding of student development, individual behavior, the student environment, and human relationships.
23. Collaboratively provide professional expertise to advocate for individual students and specific groups of students.
24. Serve as a member of the campus student support team and campus crisis team.
25. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
26. Articulate the District's mission and goals in the area of counseling to the community and solicit support in realizing the mission.
27. Adhere to legal standards including school board policies.
28. Adhere to state, district, and campus standards, regulations, and procedures.
29. Shows commitment to current professional standards of competence and practice.
30. Promote and follow ethical standards for school counselors.
31. Demonstrate professional and responsible work habits.
32. Use professional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
33. Perform any other duties assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None WORKING CONDITIONS : Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Exposure to childhood communicable diseases; good general health and stamina needed. *Salary is commensurate with experience
