Job Title: Special Education Support Aide / Behavioral Support Paraprofessional
Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Support Aide to provide one-on-one academic, behavioral, and daily living support to students with disabilities. In this role, you will work closely with teachers, case managers, and related service providers to help students achieve their educational and developmental goals. The ideal candidate has experience working with children or individuals who require behavioral, educational, or personal care support and is comfortable assisting students with a variety of needs. In this role, you will work closely with teachers, case managers, and related service providers to help students achieve their educational and developmental goals. The ideal candidate has experience working with children or individuals who require behavioral, educational, or personal care support and is comfortable assisting students with a variety of needs. Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small-group instructional support under the direction of a teacher or case manager.
- Assist students with academic, behavioral, social, and life-skills development.
- Implement individualized education and behavior support plans as directed.
- Support students in developing cognitive, communication, motor, self-help, and daily living skills.
- Monitor and manage student behavior using established classroom procedures and positive behavior intervention strategies.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, handwashing, feeding, changing clothing, and other hygiene-related tasks as needed.
- Help maintain a safe learning environment by monitoring student activities and identifying potential safety concerns.
- Support physical development activities and assist students with mobility needs, including lifting, positioning, transferring, and the use of braces or other adaptive equipment when necessary.
- Prepare and support students for participation in general education or inclusive classroom settings.
- Maintain documentation and records related to student progress and support services.
- Collaborate with teachers, case managers, therapists, and other school staff to support student success.
- Encourage positive social interactions and promote student independence.
- Attend required trainings, professional development sessions, and in-service programs related to instructional practices, student support, and medical interventions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children, students, individuals with disabilities, or in a caregiving/support role.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors in a professional and supportive manner.
- Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Experience in Special Education, Behavioral Health, Mental Health, or related fields.
- Knowledge of positive behavior support strategies and classroom behavior management techniques.
- Experience working in school, educational, healthcare, or human services settings.
